Rainbow Connection

Enjoying unusually warm weather here in my neck of the woods.

"You Tube" is good for some things. :-)

Tweet, Tweet, Tweet

Some photos of the humble Western Scrub Jay, who has taken up residence in the tree next to our house. I never know if I am seeing the husband or the wife; therefore, I refer to them collectively as "he".

Please note the container for items to be recycled. We try to be as earth friendly as is possible for two people, who own a car and love electricity.

We placed a bird feeder outside the kitchen window and he has made it a point to stuff his face (or beak) whenever he has the time to do so.

I took this photo from the dining room. I wanted to get a sharper image of my little pal and scattered some seed on the pavement outside. He fell for it hook, line and sinker and was considerate enough to stay for a while. I believe that the photo below is the best of the bunch; it must be his good side.

Late Night Snack

I met this fellow a few nights ago as he was helping himself to the contents of our trash can. The first time I disturbed him, he hastily disappeared into the night. Having found a free meal however; he did not stay away long.
I checked twice during the evening and sure enough, he was there both times.

When I stepped outside for the last time before retiring for the evening, he vacated the trash can and sat down beside it, waiting for me to leave him to enjoy his meal in peace. I did not press the issue: it was dark; he probably has rabies; he wasn't scattering trash throughout the back yard and it was the night before trash day.

At The Beach

The weather this week has been very warm: temperatures have climbed as high as the 90s. We decided to spend some time at the beach, which is located not far from the house.

The water was painfully cold. We only waded into the surf because who can go to a beach without at least sticking his feet into the water?

Oh, the Shame

My wife maintains that this pig-shaped hat is "cute". I disagreed with her, but did not stop her. Judging from the look on the cat's face, she will never forgive my wife.

Jeff

I don't know who Jeff is (or was), but I hope his parents thrashed him for having defaced the fence.

He Was Right After All!

When he uttered the famous line, "As God is my witness, I thought turkeys could fly", Mr. Carlson was not wholly incorrect.

A few days ago, while enjoying the sunshine during a break, I witnessed two turkeys in flight. They were no higher than 12 or 15 feet off the ground, and they traveled no more than 50 feet, but they were airborne. You can rest in peace, Mr. Carlson, knowing that you were partially correct in your assumption.

By the Sea

Some photographs, taken during a recent drive along the coast. Life here is so much better than it was at that other place, where even a glimpse of the ocean would have required at least a two-and-one-half hour long car ride.

The tide moved swiftly and we came within inches of finding ourselves up to our ankles in water. In avoiding the in-coming waves, we stumbled and Neptune claimed our camera's batteries. Fortunately, my wife had the foresight to pack a spare set.

I would love to write some more, but I am uninspired and I have homework that I must complete sometime before tomorrow morning: a list of useful phrases, longer than my arm, to use when expressing one's opinion. My favorite is "является общеисвестным фактом, не требующим доказательств", which translates as, "It's a known fact, which requires no proof..."
